In 2006, many young Korean students came to Bayarea, Californa to get American Education away from their family. They are highschool students between 8th and 9the graders. Some were young as 7th graders. Their dreams were to receieve US education to attend US colleges Most of students were tired of Korean Education system where academic focuse weather then their life by studying more than 12 hours a day. Some came to the States to find more opportunities for their future. Many students came to US believing that getting US education will lead to better future.
In our church, we also had these young Korean students. As we started to know thiese students we also noticed their living stituations. Some of them were placed in unstable homes and some of them were not getting their meals and they get into coflicts with host family due to cultural misundertanding and miscommunication.
We were searching the way to help these students. That we found 501(c)3 nonprofit called International Mission For Higher Education (IMHE). We worked with these students and families finding better homestays, better schools and helping to understand culutre and teach them how to communicate. Moreover, we guide students to attend the college so that they can acheive their goal which is getting US college eudcation.
10 years later, now we are expend our program to working with students loally and oversea. We provide local students to go beyond high school. Free college planning workshops and free SAT workshops helps local highschools students to navigate potiental to getting higher education . Not only that we still have tied into international education. We also go oversea to Korea to teach English with using Fun VBS. Learn More about the programs enter here.
